Record-Breaking Field Storming
If there is a Guinness World Record for the most consecutive field stormings in a college football season, 17-year-old Gary Morse might be the frontrunner. A recruit from the Class of 2026, Morse visited three colleges over three consecutive weekends: Vanderbilt during the Alabama game, Oregon for the Ohio State matchup, and Tennessee also against Alabama. Each time, Morse celebrated momentous home victories by storming the field, with his father, Allan, observing from the stands. “I won’t lie to you,” said Morse, who is recognized as one of the top right-handed pitchers in his class, “I’m living my best life.”
Official Visits and Unforgettable Moments
The 6-foot-8 native of Bellflower, California, has narrowed his choices to six schools and kicked off his official visits this fall, starting with Texas A&M on September 21. Although he was there for the Aggies’ game against Bowling Green, he left early with A&M ahead in the fourth quarter. Two weeks later, Morse was in Nashville, Tennessee, for the Vanderbilt game against No. 1 Alabama, where he initially expected the Commodores to lose. However, as halftime approached, Vanderbilt was leading, and Morse decided to stay. “Third quarter ends, they’re still winning,” Morse recalled. As the game neared its conclusion, he and his friends rushed towards the field to celebrate the unprecedented win. During this exhilarating moment, Morse even captured it on video.
Experiencing College Atmosphere
Morse expressed that every field storming he experienced was exciting, but he cherished the Vanderbilt event the most. “I’d say I loved all of them,” he stated. “But the Vanderbilt one was the best just because it usually never happens and it being the first one.” The following week, he was back at it again in Eugene, Oregon, witnessing a thrilling showdown between Ohio State and Oregon, where he joined the jubilant crowd yet again. “All these crowds, the kids are just super involved in what’s going on in their college,” said Morse, reflecting on the vibrant college atmosphere.
Planning Ahead
After two exhilarating weekends, Morse pondered the rarity of such experiences, especially being a baseball recruit. Then came the Tennessee-Alabama game, completing a remarkable trifecta of field rushes. “Not only does that have to be a record in a row, but just for a recruit in general…maybe a couple of superfans have stormed the field three times in their lifetime, but even that would be super lucky. I’m batting 1.000,” he joked.
As Morse continues his journey, he has two official visits left, to LSU and Texas, although he doesn’t anticipate another field storming. Regardless, the upcoming visits set a high benchmark. While there’s no rush to make a commitment—ideally before his season starts in the spring—Morse humorously commented, “If I keep storming the field, I might just have to become a professional official visitor.”
@cfbcampustour tweeted about Morse’s field storming: “Last night’s field rush at Kennesaw State was the 16th FBS school where I’ve rushed the field. It’s the ultimate fan moment at a game & I hope to add a couple more before the end of the season.” (Photo of recruits Eli Herst and Gary Morse, videos courtesy of Gary Morse)
