Elon Musk es, además de muchas otras cosas, ahora el co-líder del actualmente inexistente grupo asesor del Departamento de Eficiencia del Gobierno (DOGE). UU., diciendo: “No creo que el contribuyente estadounidense deba pagar por la ocupación” de ese puesto. Musk lo volvió a publicar, añadiendo el comentario “tantos trabajos falsos” en una publicación con más de 33 millones de visitas. Como señala el WSJ, los seguidores de Musk han respondido de la manera que se podría esperar: con una avalancha de memes y acoso dirigido a Thomas, cuyas páginas de LinkedIn y Facebook ahora son privadas. Everett Kelley, presidente de la Federación Americana de Empleados Públicos, dijo al WSJ que las publicaciones “tienen el objetivo de sembrar terror y miedo en los empleados federales”. Atacar a los objetivos con acoso es una táctica que Musk ha utilizado en el pasado, incluyendo llamar “tipo pedófilo” al espeleólogo Vernon Unsworth, criticar a un exejecutivo de Twitter tras su oferta de compra de la empresa, y sugerir que el jefe de confianza y seguridad Yoel Roth era comprensivo con la pedofilia.
